ABOUT REIKI
Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive, hands-on (or off) healing modality that aims to balance energy within the body and mind. Originating in Japan, Reiki draws on centuries-old traditions of energy work and holistic healing. During a session of Reiki, a specially-trained practitioner works one-on-one with a client, placing their hands lightly on or just above specific areas of the client’s body to facilitate the flow of healing energy. This process is designed to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being, fostering a state of deep relaxation and harmony for the client.

REIKI BEGINNER'S GUIDE
MAKE AN APPOINTMENT | Schedule online with our 24/7 booking site, or via phone call during business hours! Be sure that you get a confirmation message via email or text, and give the shop a call if you have questions or need to make changes to an existing appointment.
COME IN EARLY | Arrive at least 15 minutes early to your first appointment to leave ample time for check in and complete any intake forms.
SET UP FOR COMFORT | Dress in comfortable, breathable clothing and consider having a light meal or snack before your appointment. We recommend avoiding excessive caffeine and limiting fluids 30 min. prior to your Reiki Session to minimize interruptions like bathroom breaks.
SETTLE YOUR MIND | Take a moment before your appointment to settle your mind, if time allows. Take a couple of deep, soothing breaths in our relaxing lounge to calm your thoughts and enhance your relaxation while you await the start of your Reiki Session.

COMMUNICATE | It’s important to communicate your needs, intentions, and comfort level openly to your Reiki practitioner. Don’t hesitate to communicate with your Reiki practitioner throughout the session, as your experience and comfort may shift during the treatment. Your feedback is key to ensuring a positive and effective Reiki experience.
GET COMFORTABLE | Find a comfortable position on the treatment table, allowing your body to fully relax. Take slow, deep breaths to calm your mind and body before and during your Reiki Session. Steady breathing encourages a smooth flow of energy, enhancing the overall effectiveness of your Reiki experience.
TRUST THE PROCESS | Reiki works on subtle levels that may not be immediately noticeable, especially if you’re new to energy healing. Trust that the energy is flowing where it’s needed with the expertise of your Reiki practitioner, even if the effects aren’t instantly felt. You may notice shifts in your physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being over a length of time. Trust the process, and approach each Reiki Session with an open mind.
STAY HYDRATED | Make sure to drink plenty of water both before and after your Reiki Session. Hydration helps to support the body’s natural detoxification process, enhancing the flow of energy.
TAKE YOUR TIME | After the conclusion of your Reiki Session, one of our Wellness Facilitators can assist you with check-out at the front desk. You are also welcome to help yourself to our various amenities! There is a separate area with mirrors, hair dryers, and lotion, where you can take as much time as you’d like to freshen up.
RELAX IN THE LOUNGE | Our cozy lounge-space features complementary tea and water, coloring books, and a community journal where you can leave an entry about your time at Ripple!
TAKE TIME TO REFLECT | We encourage you to take a few moments to reflect with a complimentary mug of hot tea or cool water in the lounge. Consider every aspect of your Reiki Session: how did your mind and body feel before, during, and after the experience? This reflection can deepen your awareness of the healing process and help you tune into the subtle changes Reiki can bring.

Reiki is a non-invasive energy healing practice where a trained practitioner lightly places their hands on or above specific areas of the body to facilitate energy healing. Massage Therapy, on the other hand, involves manipulating muscles and soft tissues to relieve tension, improve circulation, and promote physical healing through hands-on touch that is typically more intense in pressure than the methods utilized during Reiki. While both service types promote relaxation and overall wellness, Reiki focuses on energy balancing without physical manipulation, whereas Massage is primarily tactile and targets muscular and soft tissue manipulation for therapeutic benefit.
Practitioners undergo specific training to become proficient in the art of Reiki, and receive a certification upon completion of training. All Reiki practitioners at Ripple Float & Wellness Center are certified in the state of Connecticut to provide Reiki treatment.
“Hands-on” means that the practitioner places their hands slightly on specific areas of the body to channel healing energy. This touch is gentle and non-invasive. “Hands-off,” on the other hand, means that the practitioner hovers their hands just above your body, without making physical contact. Both methods are effective, and the choice between hands-on or hands-off depends on your comfort level and the practitioner’s assessment of what will be most beneficial for you. In a typical Reiki Session, the practitioner will alternate between use of hands-on and hands-off techniques to provide a healing experience for the client.
It’s best to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. You will remain fully-clothed throughout the session, so choose attire that allows you to relax and move freely. Soft, breathable fabrics like cotton are ideal. Avoid wearing any restrictive clothing or accessories (i.e., jewelry) that may cause discomfort while lying down. Your comfort is a priority to ensure you get the most out of your Reiki Session.
Try to arrive to your Reiki Session 15 minutes early with a relaxed, open mind, as beginning the experience in a calm mental state can help to enhance the benefits. You may want to avoid caffeine or heavy meals before your appointment to ensure you are relaxed and comfortable.
Reiki is a complementary therapeutic treatment that can support traditional medical treatments for some conditions but is not a substitute for medical care. It can help to manage symptoms and improve overall well-being and quality of life, but it is important to consult with a healthcare professional for specific health conditions, including but not limited to consulting with a mental health clinician.

We also offer a hybrid appointment type that seamlessly blends the techniques of Reiki with that of traditional Massage for a one-of-a-kind treatment, our 90-Minute Reiki-Massage Session. A 90-Minute Massage Session at Ripple is a massage treatment in which the client will be paired with a licensed Massage Therapist that will manipulate the muscles and soft tissues of the body to promote physical healing and relaxation. A 90-Minute Reiki-Massage Session pairs a client with a practitioner who is both a licensed Massage Therapist and a certified Reiki practitioner to provide a treatment that seamlessly blends the gentle techniques of Reiki with the healing of traditional bodywork for a one-of-a-kind therapeutic treatment. A 90-Minute Reiki-Massage at Ripple will involve elements of both Reiki and Massage, used alternately by the practitioner depending on your comfort level and the practitioner’s assessment of what will be most beneficial for you. Reiki-Massages cannot be booked as Deep Tissue, nor can they be booked for 60 Minutes, they are only available as a 90 Minute Session.
